FRIENDS' Testimony:

The Preservation Committee at FRIENDS found the proposal for 127 East 71st Street to be a thoughtful improvement on the existing condition. By reducing the number of planes on the rear façade and removing part of the rear-yard protrusion, the resulting elevation is pleasingly simplified. It also yields more outdoor area and increases green space. While the applicant is adding window openings on the upper floors, we found them to be modest and appropriate for a secondary façade. Further, we appreciated the use of multi-light divisions on the windows; a small detail which has a positive impact.
