WHAT: Preservation Lobby Day
WHERE: Steps of City Hall
WHEN: Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 12:00 p.m. – a press conference will begin at approximately 12 noon, but please plan to arrive by 11:45 a.m. to show critical mass
Join us on the City Hall Steps for a press conference and rally on May 6th at noon for the 3rd Annual Preservation Lobby Day. We will be specifically rallying for continued and enhanced support for the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s budget; but this is a terrific opportunity to show city officials the strength of the preservation community. FRIENDS has endorsed the City Preservation Platform that promotes the following 5 themes:
Preservation is Sustainability – Preserving and re-using buildings and building materials saves money, energy, and the environment, and also boosts local economies.
Preservation is Neighborhoods – Preservation of our historic buildings and neighborhoods is one of the most important factors in assuring that New York remains a livable and sustainable city.
Preservation is an Economic Catalyst – Preservation raises property values, strengthens the city’s tax base, and enhances tourism.
Preservation is Historic Religious Properties – Historic religious buildings are the anchors of many communities, and often provide social services that are not otherwise available.
We depend on your support and hope to see you there!
