For over twenty-five years, Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts has been dedicated to preserving the architecural legacy, livability, and sense of place of the Upper East Side. We’re good watchdogs. We lobby, we cajole, we go to court to protect the special character of this area of New York City. Mayors, City Council Members, Borough Presidents, Planning and Landmarks Commissioners, editors, and reporters all want to know what we think and where we stand on land-use issues that affect all of us. There wouldn’t be an Upper East Side Historic District without FRIENDS, or precious Midblock Zoning, or many other things we now take for granted. We can’t win all the battles, but we win our share of them.
