FRIENDS Testimony:

FRIENDS Preservation Committee wishes to once again commend the applicant for the proposed restorative work on the façade and the replacement of the levanto marble spandrels which will serve to unify the two levels of retail storefronts.

FRIENDS feels that the proposed awnings may be superfluous, but we do appreciate that the proposal has faithfully recalled the pattern, configuration and operation of the documented historic awnings in keeping with the building’s history and the context of traditional Upper East Side storefront design.

FRIENDS finds the white millwork background panels of the proposed show windows on the ground floor and mezzanine to be somewhat stark and wonder if the color could be softened in order to harmonize with the marble and limestone to recede from view while still adequately showcasing the products on display. Overall, FRIENDS of the Upper East Side supports this application.
